Installation & Configuration Guide
Begin by mounting the module onto a 1734-TB, 1734-TBS, 1734-TB3, or 1734-TB3S wiring base. Secure it on a DIN rail or panel using 22 to 14 AWG solid or stranded copper wire. The keyswitch position 2 ensures correct bus alignment.

Connect the A, B, and Z return signals to the designated terminals. The module does not require an external DC power supply. Its nominal input voltage is 5 Volts DC with an input current of 19.1 mA at that level.
Use the five status indicators to monitor operation. The module status and network status LEDs are red/green. Three yellow LEDs flash when their respective inputs toggle on and off.
Configure the counter’s preset value and roller value via your control program. The module returns a 24-bit binary frequency (0 to 16,777,215) expressed in a 32-bit long word. It produces 6 or 10 bytes of input data and consumes 1 byte of output data.
Expert Technical Evaluation

This module accepts input frequencies of 1 MHz, 500 kHz, or 250 kHz, selectable per application. This flexibility allows precise capture of high-speed encoder pulses. The input on-state voltage ranges from 2.6 to 6 Volts DC with a minimum current of 5 mA.
Electrical isolation reaches 50 Volts continuous from field side to system side. This protects the backplane from transient surges. The module dissipates only 1.1 Watts and 3.75 BTU/hour, keeping thermal stress low.
Environmental tolerance is exceptional. Operating temperature spans -4°F to 131°F, and non-operating range extends to 185°F. It withstands 30 g operating shock and 5 g vibration from 10 to 500 Hz. Non-condensing humidity of 5% to 95% is acceptable.
Signal integrity benefits from the continuous isolation voltage of 50 Volts. The nominal input voltage is 5 Volts DC. The 1734-IJ uses a single counter but returns frequency data with high resolution via a 32-bit long word.
