Product Summary
The 1794-OV16P provides 16 protected digital sinking outputs for industrial control systems. It handles 500mA per channel with a total of 8.0A per module. Its electronic protection automatically shuts down on faults like short-circuits and then recovers by itself. This design reduces downtime and eliminates the need for manual reset actions.
Expert Technical Evaluation & Performance Review
The 1794-OV16P operates with a nominal on-state voltage of 24V DC. This module supports a wide voltage range from 10.0V to 31.2V DC. Each channel delivers up to 500mA of continuous current. The total output current for the module reaches a maximum of 8.0A.
The protected output design distinguishes this module from standard units. It uses electronic circuitry to guard against overload, short-circuit, and high temperature. The module automatically recovers when the fault condition clears. This feature prevents the processor from seeing a fault status.

The output delay is very fast for precise control applications. The off-to-on transition takes only 0.5 milliseconds maximum. The on-to-off transition completes in just 1.0 millisecond maximum. These speeds ensure reliable performance in time-critical processes.
The module consumes just 80mA from the FlexBus backplane. Its maximum power dissipation reaches only 4.2W at 31.2V DC. This low thermal output measures 14.3 BTU per hour. These numbers allow dense panel layouts without overheating issues.
Installation & Wiring Guide
You mount the 1794-OV16P directly onto a compatible terminal base unit. The module snaps easily onto a standard DIN rail. You must use either the 1794-TB3 or the 1794-TB3S terminal base. These bases provide the physical and electrical connection to the system backplane.

The terminal base offers three distinct screw-clamp terminal strips. The top strip holds 16 terminals for input and output signals. The middle strip provides 18 terminals for common voltage connections. The bottom strip supplies 18 terminals for positive voltage connections.
You can insert or remove the module under power without any issues. This hot-swappable capability saves significant time during maintenance. You do not need to restart the entire system for a single module swap. The module uses 16 yellow LED indicators to show each channel's output status.
The module supports multiple communication options for network flexibility. You can use ControlNet, DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP, or Universal Remote I/O. The XT version allows operation in extreme environments for greater durability.
