Allen-Bradley 1771-ASB Remote I/O Adapter Module PLC 5
Product Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1771-ASB is a Remote I/O Adapter for PLC 5 systems. This module serves as an interface between I/O modules and controllers over a Remote I/O network. It reduces installation and maintenance costs by placing I/O closer to sensors and actuators. The 1771-ASB supports data rates of 57.6 kbps, 115 kbps, and 230 kbps. It uses Belden 9463 cable and requires terminating resistors of 82 or 150 ohms. The adapter includes diagnostic LEDs for Active, Adapter Fault, and I/O Rack Fault. It improves scan time and saves I/O image space. This module mounts in the left-most slot of a 1771 chassis. It works with 4, 8, 12, 16, or 32-slot chassis. The 1771-ASB also supports 1 and 2-slot I/O addressing.

Application Scenarios
The 1771-ASB is ideal for distributed I/O in industrial automation. It connects remote I/O racks to a PLC 5 controller via a daisy-chain topology. Use it in factories, oil rigs, and processing plants. It allows I/O to be placed far from the controller, up to 10,000 feet at 57.6 kbps. At higher speeds of 230.4 kbps, it reaches up to 2,500 feet. This reduces wiring and simplifies troubleshooting. The module handles up to 32 I/O adapter devices on the link. It supports 32 I/O connections in total. Typical applications include conveyor systems, packaging machines, and material handling. The 1771-ASB enhances system flexibility and uptime.

Installation & Maintenance Guide
Mount the 1771-ASB in the left-most slot of a 1771 chassis. Connect the wiring arm 1771-WB. Use Belden 9463 cable for the RIO link. Install a terminating resistor (82 or 150 ohms) at both ends of the daisy chain. Set DIP switches for data rate and chassis size. Ensure the backplane current does not exceed 1.0 Amp. Check LED indicators regularly. A solid green Active LED means normal operation. If Adapter Fault or I/O Rack Fault LEDs are lit, troubleshoot the network. Keep the module clean and dry. Do not operate above 60°C or below 0°C. For further details, consult the user manual.
