Triconex 8111 Expansion Chassis for I/O Bus Systems
Product Overview
The Triconex 8111 Expansion Chassis is a vital part of the Tricon system. It offers high-density I/O expansion for industrial control. Each chassis includes six RS-485 I/O expansion bus ports. These ports sit at the top left corner of the backplane. There are two sets of ports for channels A, B, and C. This setup provides two triplicated serial communications paths between chassis. One cable set is needed for each expansion chassis. The RXM chassis also requires a cable set. The standard cable set (model 9000) is 6 feet long. Longer cables are available if needed. The triplicated I/O bus transfers data between I/O modules and main processors. This transfer happens at 375 kilobits per second. The communication bus runs between main processors and communication modules. That bus operates at 2 megabits per second.

Application Scenarios
This expansion chassis works best in large-scale industrial automation. It is ideal for safety-critical processes like oil and gas. Use it in chemical plants and power generation facilities. It also suits refining and pipeline control systems. The chassis supports high-density I/O configurations. It is perfect for applications needing redundant communication paths. The triplicated bus design ensures high reliability. It is used in environments where system uptime is critical. The chassis connects multiple I/O modules to main processors. This setup works well for distributed control systems.
Technical Specifications
The 8111 Expansion Chassis uses six RS-485 I/O expansion bus ports. It has two sets of ports for channels A, B, and C. The triplicated I/O bus transfers data at 375 kilobits per second. The communication bus runs at 2 megabits per second. The chassis supports high-density I/O modules. It requires one cable set per expansion chassis. Standard cable length is 6 feet. Longer cables are available on request. The chassis connects to the RXM chassis for primary module sets. It provides two triplicated serial communications paths. This ensures redundant data transfer between chassis.

Installation & Maintenance Guide
Install the chassis in a clean, dry location. Ensure proper grounding before mounting. Connect the RS-485 cables to the top left ports. Use one cable set for each expansion chassis. Attach the other end to the RXM chassis. Verify all connections are secure. Power on the system and check for proper communication. For maintenance, inspect cables for damage regularly. Replace any worn or damaged cables immediately. Keep the chassis free of dust and debris. Do not block ventilation openings. Follow all manufacturer guidelines for safe operation.
