Understanding Your Module’s Inputs
The 1746-HSCE2 provides six input channels labeled ±A1, ±B1, ±Z1, ±A2, ±B2, and ±Z2. Each channel accepts signals within a voltage range of 4.2V DC to 12V DC. You must also configure the module for 10V DC to 30V DC operation.

Configuring the Input Voltage
You must set the nominal input voltage to either 5VDC or 24VDC. The module then operates within its specified voltage range automatically. A setting of 5VDC allows a range of 4.2V to 12V. A setting of 24VDC allows a range of 10V to 30V.
Wiring for Quadrature Counters
You can configure the module for two quadrature counters using channels A and B. The Z input channel stores, holds, and resets the counter data. The module requires a minimum phase separation of 200 ns between signals.

Connecting the Outputs
The module has eight outputs with four being real and four virtual. The real outputs provide a sourcing voltage range of 5-30 VDC. Each output channel can handle a maximum on-state current of 1.0 A.
Managing Signal Integrity
You must route the input cable away from high-frequency noise sources. The module may accept false pulses on low-frequency signals with noise. Proper cable shielding will lead current away from the input channels.
